60 Years of Heineken Prizes
The 2024 edition of the Heineken Prizes commemorates a significant milestone: 60 years of recognising exceptional research achievements. The inaugural Dr H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics was introduced by Alfred Heineken in 1964 to honour his father, Henry Pierre Heineken, a trained biochemist, on his 77th birthday. Over the years, nine more prizes have been introduced. In total, 108 laureates have received a Heineken Prize, and 36 laureates have received a Heineken Young Scientists Award.
2024 laureates
This anniversary edition celebrates the prize that started it all: the Dr H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics. Alongside honouring this legacy, the Alfred Heineken Fondsen Foundation continues to support the present and future of science by awarding the Heineken Young Scientists Awards to promising young researchers whose work sets a high standard for their peers.
